HD or the normal download?
TikTok keeps more than one copy of every video. The HD button grabs the best one, which is usually 1080 × 1920 and encoded in H.265 (also called HEVC). The plain Download button gives you an H.264 copy, normally 720 × 1280 or 576 × 1024.
Here’s the part most downloaders don’t mention: the HD file is often smaller than the normal one, because H.265 squeezes more picture into fewer megabytes. So file size is a bad way to judge quality. Look at the resolution we print on the preview instead.
| Button | Typical file | Plays on |
|---|---|---|
| Download HD | MP4, H.265, up to 1080p | Phones, Macs, most new PCs |
| Download | MP4, H.264, 576p–720p | Everything, including old PCs and TVs |
| Download MP3 | MP3, 192 kbps | Any music player |
Windows tip: if the HD video plays sound with a black screen, your PC is missing the HEVC codec. Install “HEVC Video Extensions” from the Microsoft Store, open it in VLC, or just use the normal Download button.
Links that work
Anything you get from TikTok’s Share button works: tiktok.com/@name/video/…, the short vm.tiktok.com and vt.tiktok.com links, and the newer tiktok.com/t/… style. You don’t have to tidy the text first. If you paste “omg watch this https://vm.tiktok.com/ZM…”, SaveTT finds the link on its own.
Profiles, hashtags, sounds and live streams aren’t single videos, so they won’t load. Open the exact video first, then copy its link.
Why people use a TT downloader at all
Mostly for boring, sensible reasons. A recipe you’ll want next week. A workout to follow on a plane. Your own old posts, because TikTok’s built-in save adds a watermark to your own work. Teachers clipping a short explainer for class. Clean files matter for all of these, and that’s the whole point of SaveTT: you get the video, not TikTok’s branding.
If you’re after just the song, the TikTok MP3 downloader puts the audio button first. Stories have their own page too, the TikTok story downloader, because they disappear after 24 hours and the timing matters.
What we keep
Very little. We don’t ask who you are, and we don’t store the videos. The server fetches the file from TikTok while you download it and forgets the lookup about ten minutes later. Details are in the privacy policy.
